Nowadays, breast reconstruction is part of breast cancer treatment. This is a restoring surgery that aims to soothe the breast removal due to partial mastectomy (quadrantectomy) or total mastectomy caused by nodules or tumors.
In this procedure, it is possible to use silicone implants, tissue expanders and skin flaps from the back muscle and from the abdominal muscle (TRAM).
Whether the reconstruction should be immediate or delayed will depend on the consensus among the teams involved in the treatment. However we believe that immediate reconstruction has cosmetic and psychological benefits when compared to delayed reconstruction.
The patient may choose the area where the incision will be made since this decision will define the area where the remaining scar will be located. The incision can be made in your areola just above the crease, or in your armpit.
Surgery length will depend on each method, and we strongly recommend the use of general anesthesia.
